In our student teaching class, my groupmate and I were tasked to give a report on the different aspects of student teaching. As part of our report, the different forms that a teacher has to fill in were discussed. Fortunately, I looked up the names of these forms. Unfortunately, however, I did not know what they were for. So our instructor herself had to explain their purpose. She also informed us that some school forms were already obsolete and were already replaced and renamed by the DepEd.
The idea of downloading the forms and including them in our presentation came to mind, I just did not want to overprepare. I mean, what good would it be if I go above and beyond what is required for me to pass this course? It's not like I'm vying for honors; I already graduated a few years ago. I'm only here to pass this course and hopefully learn something along the way that will help me become a better teacher.
Professional setting
But is it okay to overprepare in a professional setting? I'm lucky that I was not reprimanded for how unprepared I was with my report. But when we're already working for someone, be it the government or otherwise, would it be prudent to overprepare sometimes? And I know it can feel like a waste of effort to prepare documents that no one will look at.
I guess what I learned from this is that sometimes I have to listen to my instincts. I thought about including the forms in my report but because of laziness or passivity, I chose not to. I guess the lesson is: it wouldn't hurt to overprepare sometimes. If I overprepared and included it in my presentation and she did not want to see it, I can always skip it and go to the next slides. Easy!
